Folding Tonneau Cover vs Roll Up Tonneau Cover

Choosing between a Folding Tonneau Cover and a Roll up Tonneau Cover may be difficult. While they both are considered soft tonneau covers, there are a few differences worth mentioning. A primary concern for tonneau cover shoppers is bed access. If you need your full bed often, a Roll up cover would be the way to go. Folding covers generally take up 1/3 of your bed, and if you need more access than that – you’ll need to remove the cover. Roll up covers offer full bed access by simply…(you guessed it), rolling up the cover. This is just one of the differences. Watch this short video and decide for yourself which cover is best for you!

So you’re interested in getting a soft tonneau cover but you want something that’s easier to operate than a snap cover. Hi, I’m Todd Henderson. Today I want to show the differences between a roll up cover and a soft folding cover.

To operate all folding covers, you first open the tailgate, release the clamps, and then you will fold it towards the cab.

To operate a roll up cover, you open the tailgate, release the latch, and roll it up to the front.

Both kinds of covers will have straps to hold them in position so it is safe to drive with them down the road. Both covers also will have structural supports built into the cover to protect against the weight of elements like snow.

When a roll up cover is open, you have complete access to the entire bed of the truck. With a folding cover, one-third of the bed of the truck will always be covered. So, if you need to haul something large, like a sofa, you just release the other two clamps, and the cover comes right off. And both covers will offer a level of security in that when the cover is closed and the tailgate is locked, there is no easy access into the cover without destroying something.

A roll up cover is going to install in about 30 to 45 minutes, whereas a folding cover goes on in 5 to 10.

So if you have any questions about roll up covers, folding covers, or any product that we carry, please give us a call. Our expert consultants are here to help you pick out the best product for you.
