Got a new tonneau cover? Got an old tonneau cover? Either way, over time both will need to be cleaned.
The soft, roll up tonneau covers, as well as some the soft folding covers have a UV resistant vinyl tarp to cover your truck bed. This covering will get dirty over time and, of course, you will want your tonneau cover to look brand new at all times. Undercover, a type of a hard tonneau cover, will also need cleaning.
Now, you may think that you can just take a quick trip to the local auto store and grab a bottle of something like “Armor All” or something similar and get to work polishing up your tonneau cover, but you would be wrong.
Silicone based products, like Armor All can actually damage your tonneau cover over time and may also void your warranty.
The above video shows how to ‘put some elbow grease’ into the cleaning if your tonneau cover is showing quite a bit of wear.
Some of the tonneau cover cleaners we offer are:
- Extang Tonno Tonic
- Truxedo Protex
- Access PPC
- Undercover Tonneau Sauce
All of these will work just great with your new OR old tonneau cover. Of course you will note a remarkable improvement in the looks of an older tonneau cover because it will have taken so much abuse over the years. If you just purchased a new tonneau cover, by using one of the above cleaners right away, this will help your cover keep a great look for longer.
Something to note, is that you should try to do this cleaning in a shaded area. The sun will tend to make the product evaporate faster than is necessary, and you might even miss a few spots if it evaporates too fast. While you are applying the cleaner, you will want to work with soft, non abrasive cloth. Don’t use paper towels or facial tissue (which can contain chemicals you don’t want on your tonneau cover). A soft cotton rag is the best to use, because you can always wash it and reuse it.
Work in a section about 2 feet by 2 feet, again, this is so the product won’t evaporate before you clean the area (and end up wasting the product).
Each of these cleaners/protectants can be used on your tires or other plastic or leather surfaces, so you have a bunch of ways to use them to keep your truck ‘looking GOOD’!
